I received my first camera when I was 18 years old. My father gave me his Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL. As soon as I snapped my first picture, I knew right away I had stumbled upon something I thoroughly enjoyed. For the next 8 years I lugged that camera and a handful of lenses everywhere, teaching myself through trial and error.
When I felt ready for a newer model in 2002, I decided to purchase a Pentax automatic 35mm. Sadly, I probably picked up that camera only a dozen times in the next 4 years; for some reason it didn’t have the same feel and I lost the drive to take pictures. Even when I did take it out, I would walk aimlessly in hopes of finding a good subject and usually ended up wasting film.
In 2006, I was walking around New York City somewhere downtown, came across a scene, and for the first time in a real long time I wished I had my camera. I realized then that I was missing out on everything NYC, my home, had to offer a photographer - there was literally something around every corner. The next day I began researching digital SLR cameras and everything seemed to be pointing towards the Pentax 100D - I already owned a few Pentax lenses, and it was in my budget.
Since then, I don’t think more than a day has gone by since when I haven’t taken at least one picture.
Hope you enjoy.
